Surprisingly busy on this holiday Friday. Expected everyone to be elsewhere for this long weekend. A nice visit from Richard Williams and Terry Sneed who are almost neighbors at Bob's house and yet I hadn't seen them on any of my walks this summer . . . Piccola plans to retire from politics; I wonder if he isn't at least a little embarrassed by the gerrymandering caper that was done to favor him. It must be obvious by now that no one--including the Republicans affected--was happy with this maneuver . . . At Penn State these days it is all about football and not about the victims who suffered. We have a distorted sense of values--and unfortunately that surfaces all too frequently in our society . . . This "traditional" musical jewelry box is a beauty and plays I'm Always Chasing Rainbows (or a Chopin piece, if you prefer). Sells for $75 . . .
